Seamless and convenient parking in the "Parkhaus am Dom"

12.01.2024

Barrier-free and ticketless parking system in Worms from 15 January Worms/Munich, 12 January 2023: The city of Worms is digitizing the "Parkhaus am Dom" parking lot. Peter Park System GmbH is installing its barrierless and ticketless parking management system there. In future, drivers will be able to park easily and seamlessly thanks to license plate recognition - without having to stop in front of barriers. The parking time is calculated automatically using data protection-compliant license plate recognition. The new solution replaces a barrier system that is prone to repairs.

The digital parking management system is particularly suitable for inner-city parking areas such as the "Parkhaus am Dom". There is no need to stop in front of barriers, which prevents tailbacks at the entrances and exits and avoids disrupting inner-city traffic around parking areas. This helps to reduce CO2 emissions on site, which relieves the burden on local residents, and speeds up the parking process.

For operators, the smart Internet of Things solution can be a key building block for transforming parking spaces into mobility hubs. Different forms of mobility come together at such traffic hubs, making it possible to switch to more sustainable mobility options and reducing traffic congestion. The Peter Park system solution also includes a digital platform that supports the modular development of smart mobility concepts. Based on clearly displayed real-time data, optimization potential can be identified and concepts validated.

"With the new parking management system from Peter Park, the municipal parking garage operator is taking on a pioneering role in terms of digital and barrier-free parking in Worms. We are delighted that we will also be able to offer digital payment of parking fees after the changeover. In addition, Parkhausbetriebs GmbH can create QR codes in the system for events. Customers can scan these with their smartphone and activate a discount for their license plate online. Especially at Worms highlights such as the Nibelungen Festival, there will be no traffic jams and longer waiting times at the exit in future," says Stephan von Borzyskowski, Managing Director of Parkhausbetriebs GmbH Worms.

The solution requires hardly any hardware in the parking areas and incurs only low acquisition and maintenance costs. An on-call service is not necessary, as is the case with barrier systems. The system also works in a resource-saving and cost-efficient manner, as the absence of barriers reduces wear-prone components. Instead, the Peter Park system is based on license plate recognition, which scans incoming and outgoing vehicles. The system uses this to calculate the exact parking time. The license plate is read in accordance with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The Peter Park system thus ensures user-friendly and uncomplicated parking for drivers. Users pay in the parking garage at pay stations with a bright display, which are quick and easy to operate and offer a wide range of payment options. Alternatively, payment can also be made via the Easypark parking app. Dispensing with tickets saves paper and avoids waste.

Barrier-free parking - how it works and interesting facts for parkers:
When entering and exiting, the vehicle's license plate number is read using a scanner and the parking time is automatically determined. The pay stations are quick and easy to operate and offer extensive payment options in cash, by card as well as Apple and Google Pay (NFC). The amount to be paid is limited to the actual parking time. Signage is displayed to remind you not to forget to pay.

Once the payment process is complete, the vehicle can leave the area seamlessly and without stopping.

What data is collected? And is this permitted in Germany? An image of the vehicle license plate number and a text file with a time and date stamp to determine the parking time are recorded. There is expressly no video recording. No public ground is recorded either. The license plate is read in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b and f GDPR.

What happens to my data? Only the license plate number is recorded upon entry. It is not possible to identify the driver of the vehicle. Only in the event of a parking violation can the parking lot operator determine the owner data, which is temporarily stored in Germany for this purpose, by querying the Federal Motor Transport Authority. If there is no parking offense, the entry and exit data is automatically deleted.

The extensive signage is part of the necessary and prescribed information on the parking process.

"Digital, barrier-free parking management systems are becoming increasingly popular with local authorities due to their advantages in terms of user-friendliness, cost-effectiveness and process efficiency. Thanks to our wealth of experience in the inner-city sector, Peter Park is ideally equipped to handle busy parking garages such as the 'Parkhaus am Dom' in Worms. We have already installed our system solution in numerous municipal parking areas throughout Germany and are very pleased to now also support Parkhausbetriebs GmbH Worms in offering citizens and visitors an uncomplicated, efficient and sustainable parking experience," explains Maximilian Schlereth, CEO of Peter Park System GmbH.
